Sitting on Strata Council can be a thankless task at times, but as a Strata Council member, you are vital to the daily operations of your strata corporation. The role of Secretary is a very important one, and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
The role of the Strata Council Secretary is essentially to ensure that the records of the strata corporation are kept in an orderly manner. Basically you are the custodian of the record keeping!
Reporting to Council, some of your responsibilities will include;
1. Attending Council meetings and General meetings
2. Ensuring that accurate minutes are taken at the Strata Council meetings. If the Strata Manager is taking the minutes, you will then want to look over them afterwards.
3. Maintaining records of things like; bylaws and rules, resolutions, owner lists, etc. Many of these functions will be delegated to a Property Management Company, but it’s important to remember that as a Strata Council member you are still ultimately responsible!
